The African Model Mini-Grid Regulations Tool is a powerful new tool to streamline and standardise mini-grid regulations across the continent. It is available thanks to a joint effort led by the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR) in collaboration with GET.transform and a broad coalition of stakeholders.  In total, over 30 African and international organisations—including regulators, industry bodies, and development partners—contributed to defining practical, consensus-based regulatory templates.

In a true boost for harmonisation, the IT-based tool helps African governments and regulators to develop, update, and adapt their mini-grid policies in line with international best practices. By answering a few essential questions about their country’s electricity sector, users can quickly generate regulation drafts that are 70–90% ready for implementation. The tool also offers insights into how appealing the regulations are to investors, helping nations foster greater private sector involvement. Learn more below and give it a try!
