GET.transform and GET.invest have expanded their engagement in Latin America and the Caribbean, strengthening support for countries seeking to accelerate their energy transitions, advance regional electricity integration and mobilise investment in sustainable energy infrastructure.
The launch took place during the 11th OLACDE Energy Week in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, bringing together energy leaders and experts from across the region. Supported by Germany, the European Union and Denmark, the expanded action reinforces European–Latin American cooperation under the EU–LAC Global Gateway Investment Agenda.
Connecting policy reform with investment
The regional engagement brings together the complementary expertise of GET.transform and GET.invest through a joint “Policy to Deal” approach. GET.transform provides technical advice on energy policy, regulation and institutional capacity, while GET.invest supports project preparation and investment mobilisation. Together, the programmes aim to bridge the gap between policy priorities and concrete, investment-ready energy infrastructure projects.
Implemented through the Global Energy Transformation Programme (GET.pro), the partnership seeks to improve the conditions for project implementation and financing while supporting more sustainable, interconnected energy systems across Latin America and the Caribbean.
As Myriam Ferran, Deputy Director-General at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), highlighted at the launch, “GET.pro represents a concrete contribution to Global Gateway. Through GET.transform and GET.invest, it will enable us to better coordinate technical cooperation, financial institutions, governments and the private sector around priorities defined in conjunction with partner countries on the continent.”
“This expansion also reflects a shared conviction: no single institution can close the implementation gap on its own. We need cooperation among governments, organizations, regional organisations, financial institutions, the private sector, and international cooperation partners”, added Annika Gottmann, representative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
A wider dialogue on the region’s energy future
The launch formed part of GET.transform’s broader engagement at the 11th OLACDE Energy Week, held from 6 to 9 October in Santo Domingo. For the second consecutive year, GET.transform participated as a co-organiser of the OLACDE Energy Week, alongside the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and CAF. The event convened energy ministers, policymakers, regulators, financial institutions and technical experts from across the region.
GET.transform and GET.invest contributed to discussions on electricity interconnection, regulatory frameworks and investment conditions, including exchanges on linking the Central American Electrical Interconnection System (SIEPAC) and the Andean Electrical Interconnection System (SINEA). These discussions reinforced the importance of regional cooperation, robust institutions and enabling regulatory environments in advancing the energy transition.
Through their expanded regional engagement, GET.transform and GET.invest will work with governments, regional organisations, financial institutions and private-sector partners to translate energy-transition priorities into enabling reforms and implementable investment opportunities.
