In November, Mozambique’s 2nd Bi-Annual Off-Grid Energy Forum successfully brought together around 140 representatives from government, the private sector, development partners, and specialised institutions. Organised by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) through the National Directorate of Energy (DNE) and the Integrated Unit for Planning and Coordination of Electrification (UIPCE), in partnership with the Mozambican Association of Renewable Energies (AMER), the Forum reaffirmed its role as the country’s primary platform for coordination and strategic dialogue on off-grid energy solutions.
Mozambique showcased key developments shaping its off-grid energy sector. Participants reviewed initial findings from the new Integrated Energy Platform to strengthen data sharing and monitoring and took part in working sessions on mini-grids, solar home systems, and clean cooking to assess progress and set priorities for 2026. Discussions also explored available financing and technical assistance through the national “Country Platform”, alongside emerging priorities such as productive uses of energy and e-waste management, underscoring the need for stronger institutional coordination. The event marked the official launch of RENMOZ 2026 and saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between AMER and the Zambezi Valley Development Agency, reinforcing collaboration to expand renewable energy and accelerate energy access across the country.
GET.transform participated as a strategic partner. Working with MIREME, the programme supports the institutional foundations required to implement the Energy Transition Strategy roadmaps and develop harmonised frameworks for off-grid electrification, including transparent procurement processes that encourage private sector investment. It also helps to align technical assistance efforts from development partners ensuring that national and development initiatives collectively advance sustainable, low-carbon energy access.
As the Forum discussions and commitments move to implementation, GET.transform will continue working with partners on translating this shared vision into concrete progress on Mozambique’s path towards sustainable, inclusive, and reliable energy access for all.
