Last week, the RENPOWER Central America Southern Triangle Regional Conference on Renewable Energy and Energy Security was held in Panama City, brought together representatives from government institutions, international organisations and companies across the region. This year’s conference explored how countries in the region are addressing emerging challenges while shaping a forward-looking vision for energy security and sustainable development.
Central America is emerging as a dynamic renewable energy market, driven by the growth of distributed generation, energy storage (BESS), and over 3,000 MW in planned capacity tenders, with the Regional Electricity Market (MER) enhancing resilience and unlocking new investment opportunities.
Enrique Morales, Advisor at GET.transform’s Central America Window, contributed to a panel discussion on “Resilience Network – Modernization and Expansion of National and Regional Transmission Infrastructure.” The session saw further inputs from Costa Rica’s Ministry of Environment and Energy, Energolatina and IEEE Panamaand explored critical issues affecting transmission systems and the urgent need to strengthen grid capacity to support the energy transition.
The discussion covered strategies to reduce transmission grid congestion and support the integration of renewable energy projects, alongside an assessment of current infrastructure gaps.
In addition, the session explored the particular risk management in the Engineering, Procurement, Construction context of transmission projects and highlighted the strategic role of the Panama–Colombia interconnection in advancing regional energy market integration.
Through its participation, GET.transform reinforced its commitment to supporting resilient, future-ready energy systems across Central America.
