The Africa Energy Forum (AEF) 2026, one of the energy sector’s foremost global gatherings, will be convening policymakers, investors, utilities, developers and development partners to advance sustainable energy solutions across the continent. The AEF 2026 will take place on 16–19 June 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.
At the event, Christine Juta, Regional Window Coordinator Africa at GET.transform, will moderate the panel session “Powering Regional Integration in Southern Africa: Long-Term Planning, Market Evolution and Investment Pathways in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP)” (19 June – 9.30-10.45 am).
The discussion will explore how the updated SAPP Master Plan is shaping regional investment priorities and aligning national and regional energy strategies in support of AfSEM and the Continental Power Systems Master Plan (CMP), when Africa moves toward actual market opening and continental electricity trade. The panel will also examine SAPP’s ongoing market evolution, from feasibility work on new products such as renewable energy certificates, carbon markets, ancillary services and financial instruments, to broader reforms in market participation and institutional arrangements.
Further expert panellists include:
- Alison Chikova, Chief Engineer Planning and Operations, SAPP Coordination Centre
- Jean Madzongwe, Programs Manager, SAPP Project Advisory Unit (PAU)
- Lion Mashiri, Country Director Zimbabwe, African GreenCo
- Sara Elhag, Head of Energy Division, Infrastructure and Energy Department, African Union Commission (closing reflections)
Both SAPP workstreams are supported by GET.transform under ENGAGE, a joint project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), bringing together GET.transform, GET.invest, and InCore. In addition to above expert panel, ENGAGE will be present in the event through an exhibition booth with GET.invest.
