On 9 July 2025, GET.transform will join forces with the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) to co-host the 20th edition of the AEEP Energy Talks: “Advancing Rural Electrification in Africa: Scaling Up Regulatory Best Practices to Accelerate Progress in Off-Grid Electrification.” The webinar will highlight the transformative potential of clear, harmonised regulatory frameworks in unlocking investment and accelerating the deployment of off-grid renewable energy solutions across underserved rural areas in Africa. As rural electrification rates in Sub-Saharan Africa remain as low as 34%, the session will spotlight how improved policy environments can catalyse real progress and drive inclusive energy development through innovative off-grid technologies.
Bhoomika Tiwari, GET.transform Advisor, will present the African Model Mini Grid Regulation Tool, a groundbreaking initiative developed in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR). Designed to support regulatory harmonisation and enhance investment-readiness, this tool offers a customisable set of guidelines tailored for mini-grid development.
The event will include a panel discussion moderated by Lucas Kürten, GET.transform Advisor, and will bring together leading voices from across the energy sector, including:
- Motlatsi Ramafole – Chief Executive, Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority
- Mark Hankins – Energy Expert, GET.invest Finance Catalyst
- Africa Minigrid Development Association
- European development partner
Together, the panel will delve into regulatory best practices and practical strategies to advance off-grid rural electrification in Africa. The session aims to foster dialogue among policymakers, regulators, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to support the creation of clear, consistent, and investment-friendly frameworks that can drive meaningful progress toward universal energy access.
