Mid-June, Marrakech hosted representatives from 17 African countries for week-long workshop aimed at accelerating renewable energy deployment across the continent.

Organised by Masen in partnership with the World Bank’s ESMAP-SRMI Academy, GET.transform, the  African Development Bank, the French Development Agency (AFD), and IRENA, the programme focused on strengthening public institutions’ ability to design and manage competitive tenders for renewable energy projects.

The event opened with a field visit to the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, offering participants first-hand insight into one of the world’s flagship solar projects.

The workshop built on a previous session held in Rabat in October 2025 and marked a key step in turning training into concrete action. Participants worked on implementing national action plans through technical sessions, peer exchanges, and practical exercises on project structuring, risk allocation, and financing.

Looking ahead, with strengthened institutional capacity and enhanced collaboration among participating countries, public authorities are better positioned to develop and implement well-structured and successful renewable energy tenders. The programme is expected to help unlock substantial renewable energy investments and facilitate the deployment of many megawatts of new clean energy capacity, accelerating Africa’s energy transition while attracting long-term private capital to the sector.
